Family and refer-a-friend discounts: grow through the members you already have
Ask a room full of club owners where their new members come from and you will rarely hear an advertising platform. It is the sister who already takes classes, the colleague who brings someone along, the second child from the same family. Word of mouth is the cheapest channel a club has.
Yet few clubs reward it, because tracking discounts by hand is exactly the kind of admin that never gets done. In REQUR you switch on family and referral discounts once, and from then on they calculate themselves on the invoice.
In short
- The family discount applies automatically to members at the same address who each have a running membership.
- You choose: a discount for all family members or from the second one onwards, and the percentage.
- With the referral discount a new member fills in who brought them; after a confirmation by mail both get their reward.
- The discount appears as its own line on the invoice and stops by itself when a family member cancels.
Family discount without the lists
The family discount looks at the address: members with the same postcode and house number who each have a running membership belong to one family. You set the percentage and whether it applies to all family members or from the second one onwards.
After that you never look at it again. When the third child signs up, the next invoice includes the discount by itself. When a family member cancels, the discount stops just as automatically. No list, no forgotten corrections, no discussion at the front desk.
A referral discount with an honest check
On the sign-up form a new member can fill in who brought them in. That friend gets a mail with one question: is this right? Only after a confirmation does the reward kick in, so nobody just types in a name for the discount.
You decide what both sides get: a percentage or a fixed amount, and for how many invoices it applies, from one month to two years. The front desk can also link a referral afterwards, resend the mail or reject it from the member card.
Visible on the invoice, tidy in the books
Both discounts appear as their own line on the recurring invoice, so a member sees exactly what the family discount or the referral reward is worth. That visibility matters: a discount nobody notices produces no stories at birthday parties either.
The discounts stack neatly with a discount code and never go below zero: an invoice that ends up at zero euro is simply settled as paid. And because it happens on the invoice, it is automatically right in your bookkeeping link too.
Why this beats an ad
An ad reaches strangers; a referral discount activates people who already experience your classes every week. Their recommendation comes with proof, because the friend sees the result. And someone who joins with a friend already in class is more likely to stay.
Best of all is the predictability of the cost. You only give a discount when there really is a new member with a running membership, so every euro of discount is tied to revenue that was not there before.
Frequently asked questions
No. Every family member keeps their own membership and their own invoice; the discount is applied per member automatically. Cancelling, pausing or switching stays possible per person.
No. You switch the rules on once under Memberships and Discounts, and REQUR applies them automatically to every new recurring invoice, including stopping when the condition no longer holds.
Yes. For each side you set separately whether it is a percentage or a fixed amount and for how many invoices it applies. You can also give one side no reward at all.
